A stunning production of Shepard’s “Buried Child”

I accompanied Betsy on the preview opening of the play Buried Child, which she directed at Pima Community College.

Kudos to Betsy, and all of her cast, crew and designers. This, in case you are unfamiliar with it, is a difficult play to pull off well. Betsy’s cast and crew executed it tightly, and with the kind of atmosphere and punch you can only get with a true ensemble. And this production was pulled off so well, not by professional actors, but by Pima College students.  This production is a credit to Betsy’s direction and the  training of her cast.  I believe that Sam Shepard would approve.

After the play, an older gentleman sitting next to us told Betsy he hadn’t been moved as deeply by anything he’d seen since “A Beautiful Mind.”

Well done!!!

There was a lot of laughter, and the subtle power of the play came to its full force at the end, leaving me with a lingering and haunting tear in my eye. The play is brilliant in how it sneaks up on you, moving you deeply, without being quite sure of exactly why or how.

I love Sam Shepard’s plays, and to see them done well is a treat unlike any other.

It runs for two weeks, officially opening tomorrow (Thursday April 10th).

Do all aspects of yourself a favor and go see it.

Three Years

Friday is a special day. Edie turns three.

I really love this picture. Edith is a dear little girl, with a heart the size of the moon and a burning desire for self-expression in as direct a form possible (like the Sun).

When I dropped her off for school this morning, her teacher, Sandy (a.k.a. “Mrs. Claus”), told me they teach the children that “We all come in our own packages…

Ain’t it the truth.
